Our Identity:
African Electoral Alliance (AEA)
The African Electoral Alliance (AEA) is a distinguished, independent, and continental Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Established in 2015, we are non-partisan, non-profit, and legally structured as a Company Limited by Guarantee. Our headquarters are based in Kampala, Uganda, and we operate with a continental focus and global outreach
Our Governance Structure
The organization is guided by its Supreme Governing Body—The Supreme Council (SC). The SC consists of leaders, electoral experts, and stakeholders and serves as the highest deliberative and decision-making body of AEA. Its purpose is to define the strategic direction, ensure adherence to core values, and provide oversight of all operations.
Our Mandate and Purpose
AEA was created in response to growing concerns about electoral integrity, governance, and democratic principles across Africa. We are dedicated to advancing democracy, transparency, and good governance, serving as a trusted voice and credible partner in promoting fair, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes
Historical Background
AEA was conceived amid political tensions and concerns over electoral integrity, with key events like Burundi’s controversial 2015 elections and Uganda’s 2016 general elections highlighting the urgent need for action. Our founding on December 1, 2015, marked a pivotal response to challenges like electoral fraud, unrest, and disputed elections. AEA was founded by Mr. Sanyu Hussein Ali, Ms. Katushabe Hellen, and Mr. Kasaija Haruna Ali.
